Quino Checkerspot Euphydryas editha quino
The Quino Checkerspot is listed as an endangered species under US federal law. It is suffering from loss of habitat and a recent study suggests that Global Warming may also be adversely affecting this butterfly. It is one of the rarest butterflies in the world only around a half dozen colonies are left. These are in the San Diego area of California.
